PostSubject: Giovanni Trapattoni in hospital after bout of vomiting   Wed Aug 11, 2010 10:10 am

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni is in hospital after being laid low by vomiting a day before his team's friendly against Argentina.

Trapattoni, 71, was taken to Dublin's Mater Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The Italian underwent tests and while the results were described as normal, he will remain in hospital overnight.

Liam Lawrence will miss the game after sustaining a groin injury while Kevin Doyle and Richard Dunne are doubts.

Doyle and Dunne have been named in the Republic team pending late fitness tests but Lawrence is ruled out after sustaining a groin injury in training on Tuesday.

Lawrence had earlier been named in the Republic line-up.

A Football Association of Ireland statement said that Trapattoni had been feeling unwell since his arrival in Ireland on Sunday.

"He is suffering from nausea which he believes may have been caused by shellfish he ate before he left Italy," said the statement.

"He has been looked after by the FAI team doctor, Dr Alan Byrne, who as a precautionary measure brought him to the Mater Hospital this morning at 3am after further vomiting.

It's not a serious problem

Republic team doctor Alan Byrne

"He is a stable condition and undergoing some tests this morning."

Republic team doctor Byrne added:"He has had blood and urine tests, scans, x-rays and an ECG.

"Some tests are already known and they are already very good.

"It's not a serious problem, but with shellfish-type food poisoning it can have a greater impact, so everything is just a precaution."

Lawrence joined Aiden McGeady, Shane Long, Caleb Folan and Marc Wilson in pulling out of the Aviva Stadium clash while Doyle (calf) and Dunne (knee) are also doubts.

As it stands, Robbie Keane, who will win his 100th cap on Wednesday, is the only fully fit striker in the squad.

606: DEBATE
Just wondering what Kevin Foley has to do to get a look in at the Irish side

Shay Given will start in goal, with a back four of Paul McShane, Richard Dunne, John O'Shea and Kevin Kilbane.

Prior to sustaining his injury, Lawrence was named in midfield alongside Keith Andrews, Paul Green and Damien Duff with Keane and Doyle in attack.

With Dunne and Doyle still doubts, Darren O'Dea and Cillian Sheridan are on standby.

Argentina star Carlos Tevez will not play on Wednesday.

The Manchester City player is travelling to Dublin but will not play in the game ahead of the start of the Premier League season this weekend.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy was keen for Doyle to get some action in Wednesday's game in Dublin after the forward missed a number of his club's recent pre-season matches.

Republic of Ireland team: Given (Manchester City), McShane (Hull City), Dunne (Aston Villa), O'Shea (Man Utd), Kilbane (Hull City), AN Other, Andrews (Blackburn Rovers), Green (Derby County), Duff (Fulham), Keane (Tottenham), Doyle (Wolves).

I'm not familiar with his work Smile

Got me a last minute ticket for this tonight, looking forward to cheering on the Boys in Green, the sound really hangs in the new stadium so looking forward to the Fields Of Athenry being blasted out by the faithful.

Best wishes to the old geezer, but they're in good hands - Tardelli will no doubt be his usual animated self on the touchline - Check him out almost giving Trap a heart attack at 6.37 into the clip Wink

Enjoy mate. I was "HOME" back in July with my little fella and saw the stadium from the DART.
Looks fucking mint eh!
I would love one just like that right in Stanley Park!

Enjoy the game mate, will have to grab a few minutes online here.

If everyone else, myself included can reduce the size of pics we want to post so can you mate. If everyone just posted pics the size of the ones you posted, the forum will go tits up and Joe cunt here gets the job of fixing it. No thanks. Its not rocket science to reduce the size of your pictures mate and its saves me a lot of unnecessary work. Cheers, DM.

Davey nobody has to fix it; that's my point. So please, stop with this idea that the forum will somehow be broken because of a large pic, cos it's simply not going to happen. It's nothing more than an aesthetics thing and what a mod thinks "looks" nice.

I'm not resizing my pics just because one forum mod doesn't like large pictures.. look, this isn't about me taking the time to resize them, but more so if have to resize each pic from my online account just for this forum, my album then has duplicates of each photo. The only other alternative is resizing the originals which I'm definitely not doing.

C'mon.... common sense has to prevail here mate. Does anyone else have a problem with a large picture being posted on a thread? allow me to post those pics up again, and let everyone else decide for themselves, cos at the moment you're the only one who seems to have an issue with this.

Sorry if that sounds confrontational, but we've been here before and I think it's a ridiculous rule and it has to stop IMO.

that end behind the goal is shite!!

As for the picture size..it would be easier for those of us trying to view the forum covertly on work machines on work time, in reduced sized windows, if people would make the pictures ever-so slightly smaller.

What has to stop mate is you being to bloody lazy to downsize your pics. As I have said its a two minute job, it isn't rocket science ffs. Either downsize them or dont post them, simple. If everyone does what you are doing the whole forum does goes tits up. As you said, we have been down this road before and the same result will occur. Oversized pics will be deleted. DM.
