Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has risked the wrath of Liverpool fans by claiming he has the utmost sympathy for Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
The Spurs manager suggests the much maligned Liverpool co-owners are guilty of one thing, adding that “all they seem to have done is plough a fortune into the place and they stand to lose a fortune when they sell it.”
Redknapp believes Liverpool’s turbulent ownership issues have been exasperated by the club’s poor results on the pitch, which has seen Roy Hodgson’s side slip to 18th in the Premier League.
The Tottenham Hotspur manager said“THEY used to say goalkeepers are crazy.
“But in today's corporate, cash-crazy world of football you must have a screw loose if you buy a club.
“The whole Liverpool debate raging at present basically centres around a team of top-level players that is not performing at its best - a temporary problem.
“It's as if the world is caving in at Anfield right now when, really, the only issue is a lack of confidence among the squad - but it will soon turn around.
“In all of this, I have utmost sympathy for the Reds' owners, George Gillett and Tom Hicks.
“All they seem to have done is plough a fortune into the place and they stand to lose a fortune when they sell it.
“But, for all that, all they get is grief week-in, week-out.
“It's not their fault the expensive players who have been brought in are not performing as they should be.
“Alan Sugar was chairman of my club, Tottenham, for 10 years but now says there is absolutely no chance he would ever do it again. And who can blame him?
“Would you want to put up with banners slagging you off? A barrage of stick from fans every week when all you've done is thrown away lots of your money? Neither would I.
“The Liverpool team is full of world-class talent and some costly flops.
“Hicks and Gillett wrote cheques for star striker Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt, a member of Holland's World Cup final squad.
“Alberto Aquilani cost £20million and has been a disaster - but is that the owners' fault?
Redknapp believes the ownership issues will have had little effect on the playing staff, suggesting the club’s highly paid players should be held accountable for Liverpool’s current malaise.
He continued: “The ownership struggles, with potential takeovers, have little effect on the squad. They don't give a monkeys who owns a club.
“They get paid their wages and go out to entertain the fans and play some football.
Redknapp concluded: “But the team's problems are temporary. It's not often you'll hear a manager stick up for a chairman or chairmen but I'd love to know what the two Americans have done that is so wrong.”

| There have been some expensive flops (something which old'Arry knows all about).
But Redknapp can fuck right off.
He was at a club where the chairman backed him to the hilt- gave him money and a wage budget to bring in whoever he wanted. So no wonder he is defensive of owners ploughing money into clubs.
It's only a shame that Portsmouth ended up fucked because they couldnt afford to pay Utaka £70k a week. Good thinking Harry, you fucking arsehole.
Any idiot can see the carnage Gillett and Hicks have caused. It's all over the fucking press for crying out loud. The team not performing is almost a separate issue. But an issue caused, directly, by the fact that the club has spent less than it's recouped, far less, over the last couple of seasons. The stats are there Harry, you fuck head.
Veiled dig at Benitez as well eh. See you in the Europa league harry you fucking clown. |

PS - Wonder what West Ham, Portsmouth and Southampton have to say about gobshites handling of them... Take the bung Harry. |

| Harry doesn't know what he is talking about and should keep his mouth shut if he can't be bothered to look into what this pair of fuckers have done here, he should know that Torres was bought on a loan note and Kuyt was brought in by Moores, the ill informed tosser should stay out of other clubs business. |

| What a prick! Talking thru his arse , but i spose thats better than looking at his face. One word harry, LOYALTY you wouldnt know what that was if it smacked you in your ugly mush!!! Hes moved from club to club only giving a shit about himself and followed the dollar around like a drug addict ! So perhaps he has sympathy for g and h as he is cut from the same cloth as them. He doesnt know what hes talking about. A couple of world class players over 3 yrs for a club like Liverpool is hardly ploughing money in.A promise of a stadium, a pack of lies. So they deserve everything they get. We dont put up with that shit, why should we, and we should make no apology for getting things done.Unlike any other fans.
