| DANNY MURPHY claims he was partly responsible for getting Roy Hodgson the Liverpool job.
And he is absolutely convinced the former Fulham boss will get the Reds back into the Champions League by the end of the season.
Murphy admits he was sounded out by his old club before they approached Hodgson last summer – and gave him a glowing reference.
Hodgson has endured a nightmare start to his Anfield career and Reds owner John Henry this week branded the club’s form “unacceptable”.
But Murphy, 33, whose Fulham side go to Liverpool tomorrow, said: “If I was a betting man, I would guarantee they are going to finish in the top four.
“The club is in a bit of a predicament, but you couldn’t ask for a more humble gentleman to deal with that.
“The dilemma for me came when I was getting calls from people at Liverpool asking me about Roy.
“I knew I could say nothing and they would still probably employ him.
“But I was praising him because that’s what he deserves, being honest and knowing that it would probably help them decide he was the right man.
“I didn’t want to see him go, but football success generally means that people move on.
“The great thing for him was that he got to manage one of the great teams in Europe and Liverpool got one of the best coaches around.
“I hear positive sounds coming out of the club about him. The people up there don’t suffer fools.
“You will get a more successful Liverpool there this season, but the fans are realistic at the moment about what’s achievable.
“Roy wants to be a success and success for Liverpool is competing with Manchester United and Chelsea.
“He might need a bit longer than one season to do that, but he will bring them closer.
“I don’t think the fans expect them to win the Premier League this season – they are more realistic than that.
“I think some stability, getting back into the Champions League and getting extra money in is what’s needed.
“Roy will do that. He’s a winner.”

| its not hard to praise a manager who rescued your career, made you captain and almost got you a winners medal when no one in the world thought you could do it.
but when your manager of liverpool fc..your expected to try to win every game....not stand off and be so predictable.
murphy is doing roy a favour thats all..because he feels for him and hes a nice man.
but its whats best for lfc not roy not anyone else.

| Its nice to hear someone who's positive for a change. I dont think that we will get forth personally. But it's obvious that roy isnt as bad a manger as what most of you lot are saying. |

| Spud Murphy? Who the fuck is that?
That Danny Murphy is a knobhead. So who were these people at LFC who were ringing him and had a say in employing Hodgson? I am starting to hate modern footballers _________________ The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so sure of themselves, and wiser people are full of doubts

| The d fact that Roy's equally poor away record at Fulham wasn't considered worthy of note shows just what a gulf there is between the two sides. Hodge hasn't done a bad job at Fulham but it's easier there were the main goal is to finish at least fourth from bottom every year. You can afford to try things out. There is less pressure on the players as well. I think every pass Lucas has ever been made has been shown from three different angles.
If Smurf can't see this then either:
1. He's thick (always a possibility with a footballer, especially an English one). 2. Hodge has put him up to it thinking that a local lad (Is Chester local?) will be able to persuade us that he is good.

| I met Murphy through my ex.... He seemed a nice lad, but not the sharpest knife.
After what's been going on of late and what we all know of Murphy's involvement... He shafted us just as much as other certain ex-players and current ones.
However think of the timing of this article, Jan transfer window coming up and Murphy is again doing the... "Oh pick me, pick me! Boss pick me!" _________________ We don't want fucking Martinez. Bungle was bad enough. - If FSG have any sense left them Rafa is the only candidate for the job.

I don't think there would be any attempts at deception, just more of the limited thinking that pervades the English football establishment.
I reckon they all genuinely thought Roy would be good because he wasn't foreign. Get back to good 'ol English values etc.

| The plot thickens, who asked him, I doubt it was management, so I would say it was players manipulating in the background, I wonder who it was? |

Seriously, Murphy can keep talking shite... we all can see the results so far, so Danny can keep waffling more bollocks and just make himself a target for future abuse.
He is still pissed he was knobbed off so we could get Alonso... He was average when he was with us and still is. _________________ We don't want fucking Martinez. Bungle was bad enough. - If FSG have any sense left them Rafa is the only candidate for the job.

I served Murphy in a bar I worked at. He's a knob. Also served Marcus Bent. He's a bigger knob. I'm with F2F, modern footballers are complete wastes of space |

For sure. He is being promoted as a big link now between LFC and Royston, but while he was here there were times when he got more abuse than Lucas.
No way a Liverpool legend although he did knock in a couple of important goals. |

His antics are taking the shine off his best moments. I saw nearly every game Danny played in and often supporters turned on him faster than Lucas and Insua. In fact the phone-ins regularly called for him to get the boot and no one batted an eyelid when he was eventually sold, less so when they saw Alonso play. _________________ We don't want fucking Martinez.
