| Hahaha!
Having played guitar, I can completely empathize with this guy. You need to put it down and step away for a little while. Just like Soccer Manager.
Sorry to bring up a dead topic but I just stumbled upon it. |

| I've played guitar for 12 years now and I've never gotten anywhere near that annoyed, nor have I ever witnessed anybody get that annoyed. Thanks for postin this though, I've not laughed that hard in a long time. That was hilarious. |

He's worse than me! He's shite!
It's like playing golf with people who get frustrated when they don't make par every hole...it's because you are shite! |

| I've been playing now for about 5 months and have yet to get anywhere near that annoyed!
He must spend a fortune in guitars if he gets that angry all the time! |

Ah man it's classic. The slightly out of tune guitar makes it even better, fucking arsehole for breaking some lovely guitars though just because he's frustrated
Tis funny, I taught guitar through school and college, and only started back teaching in the last few months after a break of about 10 years. I'm teaching two lads who are in their 30's at the moment and they're so impatient, they expect to be able to play the thing instantly!
Have a lad who's 17 and another who's 21 and they aren't like that at all. Weird cos you would expect the older you get, the more patient you are, but not when it comes to learning new tricks I'm starting to think. _________________ "You won’t like me when I’m angry. I think I've been ok with it because I'm not struggling with it as much as i thought I would. I'm still shit at it, but managing to get a tune out every now and again.
That being said though, just started on bar chords and am really struggling. Just can't seem to get them right! |

What Bar chords are you specifically trying to play? Most of the time there's an easier way of playing it. For example, instead of playing the Bminor Chord, I play this:
E thinnest ----0---- B --------------0---- G---------------4---- D---------------4---- A---------------2---- E thickest ----x----
The beauty about this chord is it is neither Bmaj or Bmin - so you can use it for both.
Hope that makes sense? _________________ "You won’t like me when I’m angry. Becase I always back up my rage with facts and documented sources." – The Credible Hulk

Cheers mate, I'll try that one out.
Not yet tried Bmaj or Bmin yet, only on Gmaj, Cmaj and Dmaj and just about getting to grips with them! Doesn't help that I haven't had chance to practice them in over a week though!

aaaah, G - C- D
Here's something I posted on another forum a while back in relation to practicing the guitar:
On the actual playing side, practice changing between chords until the cows come home. Practice playing these chords to a point where you don't need to look at the neck of the guitar to jump between G, C, D, Em, Am, Dm, F, etc etc .... No point in learning susMin7 chords or any of that shyte for now; stick to knowing how to play the Major and Minor of each chord.
Theory: Learn the basics of Music Theory. I can't overstate how important this is. Know this and you have a headstart on most budding guitarists.
Learn the relationships between the chords.
Learn WHY so many songs have the same 3 Chords (known as the I-IV-V [1-4-5] Progression).
This brings me to your 3 Chords, G, C and D
take the scale of G: do--re--me--fa---so--la--ti----do G---A----B---C---D---E---F#--G 1----2---3----4---5----6---7----1
Now, 99.999999% of all songs ever written in the key of G will invariably use the chords G, C and D.
Why? Because C and D are the 4th and 5th notes in the scale of G. G - the 1st note of the scale C - The 4th Note of the Scale D - the 5th note of the scale
Using these 3 chords together is referred to as the 1-4-5 progression
This formula was one of the most basic fundamentals of classical music, and remains on of the most basic fundamentals of all music today. Learning this is one of the most important things you will ever learn on the guitar
Guitarists will be nodding along here noticing you always play those 3 chords together. You'll see books on sale entitled "Play all the songs in this book with only 3 chords" - it's the exact same principle. Rick Parfitt from Status Quo once joked he had Repetitive Strain Syndrome from playing the same 3 chords for over 40 years.
This isn't namby pamby theory stuff - this stuff is actually used, every day in every song ever written.
Another example - C, F and G.
If you're playing in the Key of C, you'll see C, F and G being the natural progression. Those are the 3 chords that work best together.
do--re---me---fa----so----la----ti---do C---D----E-----F-----G-----A----B---C 1---2-----3-----4-----5-----6----7----1
Again, F and G being the 4th and 5th notes in playing the Key of C. C - 1 F - 4 G - 5
The thing here is that most guitarists know that C, F and G work best together, but most starting off without music theory do not understand the WHY of it.
A - D - E also work like a charm together.
Again, here's the sale of A: do---re---me----fa----so----la----ti----do A----B----C#----D----E-----F#---G#--A 1----2-----3-----4-----5-----6----7-----1
And again, A is the first note, D is the 4th, and E is the 5th.
Here's 1 - 4 - 5 progression for nearly every major scale.
1------4--------5 E--------A--------B F------Bflat-------C G-------C-------D A------D-------E B------E-------F# C------F-------G D------G------A
Learn these off by heart.
Once you know this, if someone asks you to play a song, and you're not entirely sure of the chords of the song - or if you've never even played it before! - you will get 80% of them right using this classical formula. Get the starting note, and the 1-4-5 progression will come. They'll be in the song, trust me. How do you think lads can pick up a guitar, be asked to play a song they've never played before, and pretty much nail it? These people aren't child prodigy's, they're not beethoven, they just know the rules. In fact, how do you think Beethoven composed when he was deaf? He used the 1-4-5 Progression and other similar mathematical formulae when composing!!!! (The 1-4-5 is the most basic but the building block for everything else)
So many guitarists I know would have been so much better, so much quicker, if they just understood some of the most basic stuff about scales and the classical chord progressions.
Hope this makes sense! _________________ "You won’t like me when I’m angry. Becase I always back up my rage with facts and documented sources." – The Credible Hulk

| I self-taught the guitar by learning songs off tinterweb. The theory side of my playing is quite crap but I have learnt to get some interesting chords out of it by fiddling with the basic chord shapes. |
